Learn more about the Burnaby Stroke Recovery Group

Vision

A community where every stroke survivor in Burnaby has access to compassionate support, meaningful recovery resources, and the opportunity to lead a fulfilling, empowered life.

Mission

The Burnaby Stroke Recovery Group is dedicated to supporting stroke survivors and their families by fostering recovery, resilience, and connection. Through peer support, therapeutic activities, and community engagement, we empower individuals to rebuild their lives, regain independence, and thrive after stroke.

History

The Burnaby Stroke Recovery Group was founded in 1986 and for many years was an independent community branch of the Stroke Recovery Association of BC. The branch initially being named the “Burnaby South Stroke Recovery Club.”

We have rebranded as the Burnaby Stroke Recovery Group as the name more accurately encompasses the services we provide to stroke survivors and caregivers in all of Burnaby. Through the hard work of the participants and volunteers, the Burnaby Stroke Recovery Group is now completely independent. We proud to be a recognized British Columbia Society and Registered Charity.

Support

The Burnaby Stroke Recovery Group would like to recognize the City of Burnaby for their support. The City of Burnaby is extremely supportive in our mission to support our local stroke survivors. We are happy to announce that the City has awarded our society with community grant which allows us to access Burnaby meeting spaces at a subsidized rate.

We are thankful to be able to host our recovery meetings at two incredible recreation facilities, Edmonds Community Centre and Tommy Douglas Library.
