Supporting Stroke Survivors
The Burnaby Stroke Group supports stroke survivors in the city of Burnaby and surrounding areas. We provide support meetings for stroke survivors and caregivers. Our meetings aim to inspire and assist in stroke recovery by facilitating peer to peer connection, light exercises, brain games, and supportive discussion. All of our meetings are free to join. Volunteer With Us
Join our team as a Stroke Recovery Support Volunteer. Help create a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals on their recovery journey. If you enjoy working with people, value peer support, and want to make a meaningful impact, we'd love to have you join our team. Volunteer opportunities are available!
Supportive Community
We foster a supportive community where stroke survivors and caregivers can share experiences, gain valuable insights, and form meaningful connections to enhance their recovery process.
Educational Resources
We bring in guest speakers for informational sessions to equip our members with valuable knowledge about stroke recovery, self-care practices, and available support services. Some examples of previous topics include disability tax, aqua fit, nutrition and diet.
Exercise
Our program offers the option to participate in a light exercise class (approx 30 minutes) lead by a volunteer, which can be done both seated and standing. Exercises may include light weights, gentle movements, and stretching. Participants are encouraged only to participate in what they feel comfortable doing.
Speech Group
A supportive space for people with aphasia to communicate in a safe and encouraging environment. Led by at rained volunteer, the group focuses on helping participants gain confidence in speaking. Activities may include guided conversation and word games. The goal is to reduce frustration, improve social interaction, and enhance overall communication skills.
